Ernie spent 2 seasons as a collegiate softball coach — with the Cal Bears in 2013 and the San Francisco State Gators in 2012 — working primarily with hitters and catchers. Following the 2013 season at Cal, he spent the entire summer as Manager for the White Sands Pupfish, an independent minor league team in the Pecos League. He is currently Co-Head Coach of the Lady Magic – Muñoz softball team based out of Sacramento.

Professional Career

Over 6 professional seasons Ernie posted a .347 career batting average, winning professional league batting titles in 2010 and 2011 and earning three All-Star game appearances — including the MVP award in 2011.

His primary position was behind the plate, yet he uniquely logged game experience at all 9 positions during his professional career — a versatility that shapes how he teaches defense today.

College

Collegiate Career

Before transferring to San Francisco State University, Ernie played one year of Junior College baseball at Chaffey Community College in southern California, leading the Panthers to a 22–2 conference record and a league championship in 2006.

At SFSU, Ernie became the starting center fielder and two-year team captain for the 2007 and 2008 seasons, earning All-Conference honors in both 2006 and 2008.

Travel Ball

Travel Ball

As a travel ball player, Ernie played for the Colton Nighthawks — a powerhouse organization out of southern California. In summer 2004 he was part of the Nighthawks 18u USABF National Championship team.

With over 10 years coaching in the Lady Magic organization, he and wife Lindsey led Lady Magic to the 2022 PGF 12u Premier National Championship.
